This photo is a 360 degree view of the site of the Emeryville
Shellmound as it appeared in early 1999. The photo was taken from the top of a
large concrete rubble pile, and approximates the view of the surroundings that would have been observed
from the top of the original shellmound. The Interstate 580/880 split is visible in the
distance to the south, the San Francisco Bay to the west, and the site of the Shellmound is in the foreground to the north.

This photo is a 360 degree view of the site of the Emeryville
Shellmound as it appeared in early 1999. The photo was taken from ground level
near the center of the original shellmound. Note the archaeologists to the west standing near the green soil
probe machine. Cores of soil recovered from this machine were used by the archaeologists to determine
the underground extent of the archaeological deposit. Click the photo
