Emeryville Timeline: The View from Emeryville

People have been living at the site of the City of Emeryville for at least 2800 years. During this time, the history of Emeryville has been one of continuous change, from the first occupation of the marshy shore of San Francisco Bay by Native American hunters and shellfish collectors, as represented by the Emeryville Shellmound, to the modern development of the site as an urban shopping and residential district. Both the land itself and the activities taking place on that land have seen a long series of transformations. In many ways, the historic view from Emeryville is emblematic of the course of history around the Bay and around the state. This historic time line provides a context for the history of change at the Emeryville Shellmound site, a "view from Emeryville".
